After all the time and effort you put into your blog posts you want people to read it right?

All the way through, reach the bottom and be changed in some way for the experience. But how do you do that exactly?

I’m sharing with you the breakdown of a killer blog post so you have a format you can follow to get people interested, hooked on your content and taking action as a result.

Even if you have tumbleweeds rolling through your website blog.

Outstanding Blog Post Pinterest

When it comes to writing blog posts I want something that works right out of the gate. I mean, you already spend time thinking of the topics you want and need to cover before you start. If you need help knowing what content to create for your business then read THIS.

Then you do research, so the last thing you need is to have to think about formatting and setting up your posts effectively each time you sit down to write.

So let’s look at a format that will make it easy for you to write outstanding blog posts every time without having to reinvent the wheel.

Having an effective format to your blog post will attract more readers. Click To Tweet

#1 The Purpose of your blog posts.

Before you put pen to paper or finger to keypad think about why you are writing this blog post.
Is it to take your readers behind the scenes (establish rapport) or do a round up of a particular topic (education)?
Or maybe you solve a problem (education/inspiration) or provide your opinion on something (entertain).

#2 An Attention Grabbing Headline.

A great headline is so important as it is the first thing that will attract your reader (or not).
Attention grabbing headlines are specific, promise something of value or benefit and triggers an emotion of some sort.
Bushra Azar talks about the power of emotions and how to use them as ‘triggers’ to get people to take specific actions in this great article.

So instead of writing ‘Healthy Smoothie Recipes’ – an attention grabbing headline would say ‘5 Simple Smoothies For a Sexy Flat Stomach’. This headline is specific, promises a flat stomach and triggers the desire to be attractive and sexy.

 #3 The Teaser or Hook.

We are all busy and time poor these days so if the first few sentences don’t connect we bail out and don’t read any further. So make sure you start your post by:

-asking a question (specific, polarising, unexpected)

-sharing a story (we all love them) or

-disrupting what they expected to read.

Any and all of these will entice them to keep reading.

#4 Specific Sub Headings.

These not only break up the text and make it easier on the eyes of your reader but it allows their brain to group and sort the information you are sharing so they get more out of it. Just like I have done in this post.

Each subheading is an important point within the blog post that you want to bring their attention to.

You can also include Click To Tweets between your paragraphs to highlight points.

#5 Add Content upgrades to your blog posts.

While your peeps are avidly reading your addictive, high quality content, it is the perfect time to offer them an upgrade. This opt in can either be linked to a word or phrase in your post or have an opt in box somewhere within the post that is clearly visible.

This upgrade takes the best out of the blog post, adds to it and makes it easy for your reader to take action and implement.

#6 A Strong Conclusion.

Bring it all together and empathise with their frustration but reassure them there is a solution.
Call them to take a clear action (share this, download this, join this)
End with a shot of inspiration, a question or by asking them to dialogue with you by leaving a comment.

Creating  your blog posts doesn’t need to be another arduous chore for you if you follow this format.

To make it easier for you I have packaged up the goodness in this post into a Outstanding Blog Post Checklist just for you.

So what are you waiting for? Go forth and create your outstanding blog posts!
